Great minds. Great finds. Great future. The Capital Region has been leveling up as a major player in the digital game industry for more than two decades. It is the home of Vicarious Visions, which Activision acquired in 2005 and merged into Blizzard Entertainment in 2021. The studio worked on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, became the industry’s first billion-dollar title. The region’s game development cluster has grown to include Velan Studios, and WB Games NY, PUBG MadGlory, 1st Playable Productions, and Wolfjaw Studios. These studios have delveoped or support major titles such as Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Tony Hawks Pro Skate 1 & 2, Mortal Kombat 11, and Player Unknown's Battlegrounds. The region also has a vibrant ecosystem of independent studios and startups as well as nationally acclaimed game design school at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - all within proximity to major gaming hubs in Montreal, Boston and New York City.

Vicarious Visions
Vicarious Visions has a history of producing highly rated, top selling games such as Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy, Destiny, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. Not only does VV create amazing games, but we do it with a spirit of camaraderie, inclusivity, and togetherness. Located in Colonie, the studio is nestled in the heart of the Capital Region and we are proud to be a leader in the local game development community. Vicarious Visions has also enjoyed a longstanding relationship with RPI where we are sponsoring a new scholarship this year, the “VV Pathfinder Award”. This scholarship rewards RPI talent for their innovative ideas and encourages this emerging talent to enter the gaming industry.
